//Archive-Name: night-class-1.txt //Author: Multics //Title: night-class-1 //Copyright: 2023 //Updated: 01/12/2023 I received a note from my manager at work. I was required to take another night class from the University. This one wws Tuesday from 7 to 10. Three hours shot in one night. I figured I was meeting Linda tonight for dinner and I would tell her then about this wrinkle. We met at the restaurant. A small Indian place we both liked. I was a little late. We both ordered and started chatting. I was getting ready to tell her the bad news when she popped out her news. "I won't be free this coming semester on Tuesday nights. I have to take a night class." I was surprised. I let her see my note about the class I was signed up for from work. She burst out laughing. "We're taking the same class", she exclaimed. "Damn, imagine that", I mused. We looked at each other contemplating the class and the lose of our Tuesdays. We had met at a previous night class where she had ended up knowing me as TACKMAN and I had known her as MS. INSATIABLE, among other names. We both said at the same time, "I've got an idea". We started babbling at each other. "We could pretend not to know each other". "And do the TACKMAN and MS. INSATIABLE stick." We had had a previous night class together you see. "You could mumble the plan to some of the other students." "It would involve others." "They don't have to listen." We spent the rest of dinner making plans. Linda just didn't want to know the details, just that something would be done. She was wiggling in her seat with anticipation. We went back to her place and had some fun. She had a good tolerance for pain and I enjoyed exploring it. The first class started as normal. There was the usual mix of students, full tim undergrad, some grad students, and some like me. The instructor went through grading, what counted how much toward the grade, attendance policy, etc. He had us vote on if we wanted one larger or two smaller breaks, we agreed on one break. Linda asked a lot of picky questions that were slightly interrupting to the class. I did an exaggerated face plant with my hand and mumbled just loud enough that only my fellow adjacent students heard, "Her again". I added a "Why me"? Here and there I kinda recognized a couple other students. One of the unrecognized ones whispered to me, "Who is she and why are you so upset?" A couple others looked interested in hearing my reply. "She is most disruptive person in the class but I discovered a nice solution last time. It works so I'll try it again during the break." They just looked puzzled. Linda was being Linda almost. She wasn't being too disruptive of the class. Break time came. I went and came back quickly. I pretended to hunt through my back pack for the tacks. The few fellow students watched puzzled. I pretended to find the container, "Here we go". I took out two tacks and placed them on her chair while pretending to tie my shoes. I quietly told the students, "This will settle her down. Let's get back to our seats now." "You put tacks on her chair", said one student. "Why did you do that", asked another? "Won't you get in trouble", asked a third. "No for a couple reasons: one, she won't know who did it unless you rat me out and two, she won't yell but will quietly sit on them for the rest of the class." The break was over. The remaining students came and took their seats. Linda glanced quickly and saw the tacks, smiled, and sat right down on them doing no more then taking a deep breath. As I had told my fellow students, nothing came from my actions in class. After class, as the students were leaving I saw the note she had left behind addressed to TACKMAN. She had walked out of class with the tacks still in her jeans covered bottom. I picked up the note and quickly glanced at it. Nothing revealing our relation. I showed the note to the students who were with me. "TACKMAN it said. I presume it's you. You know that I am not a cheap date." She had double underlined cheap. "I'll wear a mini skirt next class. You had better be ready. You arrive early and I'll arrive on time as we did the last class." It was signed, "MS INSATIABLE" I described some of the things we had done at the last class. "Think about things for a week and we can meet and discuss thing then. I'd be interested in hearing you thoughts then." I gave them my number so they could contact me in the meantime with any questions. I didn't tell them I knew Linda and would be telling her about their ideas.
